Baldurs Gate 3 is filled with hidden treasures and scattered components that can be combined to forge powerful equipment early in your adventure. One of the most notable examples is the Vision of the Absolute, a rare spear that requires players to track down two severed pieces across the wilderness of Act 1. Finding the first component, known as the Shaft of a Broken Spear, serves as your introduction to this unique crafting mechanic.
Finding True Soul Edowin in the Wilderness
The journey to acquire the wooden shaft begins just outside the Emerald Grove, along the forested paths leading toward the Blighted Village. As you explore the coordinates X:136 Y:446, you will come across a small group of Absolute cultists tending to a mortally wounded dwarf. This dying man is True Soul Edowin, a victim of a vicious monster attack that took place nearby.
Interacting with Edowin triggers a narrative sequence that reveals details about the mysterious parasites infecting your mind. After the dialogue concludes and the True Soul passes away, his companions Brynna and Andrick will be left figuring out their next move. You can convince them to leave peacefully or engage them in combat depending on your current character alignment.
Once the area is secure, you must approach Edowin's body and interact with it to search his remaining belongings. The Shaft of a Broken Spear can be looted directly from his inventory alongside a few minor camp supplies. Securing this object is essential, but it remains entirely useless until you track down its matching metallic end.
Locating the Missing Headpiece inside the Cave
To complete the weapon, adventurers must navigate toward the nearby riverbank where a hidden cavern entrance sits tucked into the cliffs. This landmark is the famous Owlbear Nest, the volatile home of the giant beast that originally attacked Edowin's traveling party. Inside the cave, you will discover the massive creature guarding its young cub from potential intruders.
Dealing with the mother beast requires tactical positioning, as she possesses high health metrics and striking power for early levels. You can choose to defeat the creature in open combat or utilize stealth parameters to bypass her aggressive radius entirely. The second component, known as the Head of a Broken Spear, is lodged directly inside the flesh of the mother owl bear.
Defeating the creature or looting the carcass allows you to extract the sharp metallic point from the wound. Once both components reside within your active inventory screen, you can right-click either item and select the combine option. This action permanently merges the fragments into the completed Vision of the Absolute spear.
Utilizing the Vision of the Absolute in Combat
The reconstructed weapon offers significant advantages for martial characters during the early acts of the campaign. It possesses a unique passive ability called Blindness, which has a chance to impair the vision of targets upon a successful strike. This utility makes it exceptionally useful against massive bosses or groups of agile targets.
Additionally, the weapon deals extra piercing damage to creatures that possess multiple pairs of eyes, such as phase spiders. This specific bonus provides a distinct advantage when exploring the dark depths underneath the Blighted Village later in your journey. Understanding how to piece together these broken components helps you maximize efficiency across the initial sandbox map.
